Some information about our trip round Mallorca and Menorca.

Sunday, 1999-10-03
At 09.00 we leave the plane and go by taxi to the harbour. There we get our home for the next two weeks, the 'Carmen'. The Carmen is a First 35S7 build in 1992. Although it looks used through the long using as charter boat she looks well in technical aspects. The place inside is enough for 4 persons. This four persons are Andi, Christian, Walter and myself.
At 13.10 we can leave Palma and go towards our first destination El Arenal. We use this short distance of  7 sm to El Arenal for training some maneuvers. Here we see the first damages on the boat, the log and the GPS is not working. So we need a good navigation. But at the evening we decide not to go to Ibiza, which was one of our favorite destinations. But therefor we have enough time for rounding Mallorca and so we don't have to go many miles each day.

Monday, 1999-10-04
At 09.30 we want to leave El Arenal. But we curl the mooring around our prop. So Walter starts diving to solve this problem. After a hour of hard work Walter can clean the prop.

We sail to Cala Pi. We stay in this little nice bay for the rest of the day and over night. The water is warm so that we can enjoy swimming and snorkling.
 
 
 
 

Tuesday, 1999-10-05
Today our destination shall be Cala Mondrago. Wind with 5 Bft. brings us fast towards the destination. Although we have to sail against the wind it is one of the most wonderful sailing days and we have a lot of fun.

Wednesday, 1999-10-06
Von der Cala Mondrago geht es weiter in Richtung des nur 2sm entfernten Puerto Petro. Um 11.10 erreichen wir Puerto Petro und nachdem es hier ziemlich ruhig zugeht, beschliessen wir im Ostteil der Bucht vor Anker liegen zu bleiben. Mit dem Dingy werden die restlichen Einschnitte der Bucht erkundet. Es folgt ein entspannender Tag mit anschliessendem Landgang zum Abendessen.

Thursday, 1999-10-07
Am Vormittag um 10.00 verlassen wir Puerto Petro wieder und fahren weiter die SO-Küste Mallorcas entlang. Gegen 11.00 sehen wir uns die Cala Mitjada an, müssen aber aufgrund des Schwells beschliessen, weiter nach Puerto Colom zu fahren. Um 11.50 erreichen wir dann auch Puerto Colom. Wir gehen in der Westbucht vor Anker, bringen aber wegen der geringen Tiefe und des starken Windes der mittlerweile weht einen zweiten Anker aus. Das Wetter wird zunehmend schlechter. Der Wind weht mittlerweile mit 6-7 Bft. und es ist stark bewölkt.

Friday, 1999-10-08
Der Wind hat die ganze Nacht nicht nachgelassen und bevor wir ausfahren beschliessen wir mit dem Dingy an Land zu fahren und von dort die 'offene' See zu beobachten.

Christian und Walter machen sich auf den Weg und nach zwei Stunden erklären sie uns, das ausserhalb der Bucht Wellen mit ca. 5-6m zu beobachten sind. Wir beschliessen abzuwarten, wie sich das Wetter entwickelt. Da es bis zum frühen Nachmittag nicht merkbar besser geworden ist, wird beschlossen in der Bucht bis morgen zu bleiben.

Saturday, 1999-10-09
Der Wind ist ein bischen schwächer geworden und der Luftdruck gleichgeblieben, also laufen wir um 08.50 aus nach Cala Ratjada. Bei 2-3m hohen Wellen und Wind mit der Stärke 5-6 kreuzen wir mal wieder in Richtung unseres Zielhafens. Nach einigen tollen Segelstunden erreichen wir dann Cala Ratjada.

Cala Ratjada besteht eigentlich nur aus einem langen Wellenbrecher an dem man sich sein Plätzchen suchen muss, da aber schon Nachsaison ist gibt es kein Problem damit. Ein paar Minuten nachdem wir am Wellenbrecher festgemacht haben, legt sich eine unter englischer Flagge fahrende Segelyacht bei uns längsseits und das wars auch dann schon. Die Nachsaison und ist es das Wochenende bringen auch noch den Vorteil, das wir für Strom und Wasser nichts bezahlen müssen. So gönnen wir uns heute ausnahmsweise am Schiff eine warme Dusche, bevor wir ins Abendleben aufbrechen.

Sunday, 1999-10-10
At 10.00 we leave Cala Ratjada. We go to Cala Blanes on Menorca. Badly there is no wind for the 25sm we need so that we have to go under engine.

Therefor we are very fast and arrive at 14.00 in this little bay. The water is with 25°C very warm so that we enjoy bathing and clive jumping ;-) At the end of the trip we decide that this is the most beautiful bay of the whole trip.

Munday, 1999-10-11
We leave Cala Blanes without wind. Under engine we arrive after six hours in Port de Pollensa. We bring out two anchors because we want to visit the land for some hours.

Tuesday, 1999-10-12
Today we rent a car and go through the inner of Mallorca. We enjoy the beautiful land and visit the fire on Cap Formentor and Alcudia, Pollenca and Inca. At the evening we go to the supermarket an buy what we will need for a good dinner.

Wednesday, 1999-10-13
Slowly but surely the end of the trip is coming.

We start to sail to Port de Soller. Because of the wind we have to cruise against the wind. So it takes many hours till we arrive in Port de Soller. At 20.20 we reach aur destination. It is very hard to find a good place in the little harbour, and I don't want to know what happens if you arrive here in the main season.

Thursday, 1999-10-14
Todays destination is Port de Andraitx. We stay in the free part of the harbour in front of the marina. It is not very quiet because of the fast motorboats (damn them). Late at night it began to become more silent.

Friday, 1999-10-15
This is ou rlast day. We are leaving Port de Andraitx and sail back to Palma. At Cala Nova we make a last stop for bathing and a stop in Puerto Portals for fueling up the ship. At 16.15 we arrive in Palma. That's the end of the trip. With some beers we let pass by the last days and we hope to be back on a boat in a different area as soon as possible.

All in all it was wonderful trip. The Baleares consits of many bays where you can find your place and enjoy the silence and the nature. But I don't wanna be there in the main season.
