Toijala is a growing and lively town with a population of little over 8.000. It offers a wide selection of small town services and benefits for its inhabitants and visitors. In Toijala you can find everything within walking distance.
Toijala is situated in southern Finland near the city of Tampere. The new motorway will make it even easier to visit either Tampere (40 km) or Helsinki (130 km), the capital of Finland. Toijala is also a main railway junction. In summer you can visit Toijala by boat as well because the town is situated on the lake Vanaja.
Toijala is an ancient place of recidence. Toijala was already known in the Middle Ages as a village in the parish of Akaa. Toijala received town rights in 1977. The first industrial undertaking, manufacturing wallpapers, was established in 1903. Nowadays industry in Toijala is firmly based on wallpaper, metals and foodstuff.
The wooden church and church museum, the wallpaper museum and locomotive museum are all worth visiting. There are also several factory shops where you can find souvenirs and good bargains.
A number of events are held every year in Toijala, such as the national volley-ball tournament and the Toijala Market at the beginning of June. The Summer Theatre puts up its shows at the harbour.
