I first saw the light of day in Innsbruck, summer of '68, and grew up in Flaurling, a little town of around 900 people about 20km west of Innsbruck. Once I'd got through primary school and the first half of high school it was pretty clear I had a thing about technology, so I went to the technical high school in Innsbruck and even successfully graduated from it in 1986, in spite of the amount of time I'd spent hanging out in various pubs. Technology was still my thing, so I forsook my beloved mountains and left for Graz, to attempt a course in telematics. An attempt it shall remain, since my graduation was effectively stymied by my student jobs - and of course the very happening nightlife in Graz :-) OK, so the course didn't work out, but Graz really blew my hair back. It's Austria's second-biggest city, with 240 000 people in it, so it's big enough to have quite a lot going on, but still small enough to avoid being one of those great big anonymous cities. As a college buddy of mine put it: no matter where I might end up in Graz, I can always get home on foot :-) |

Music has always been really important for me. I don't actually PLAY it - my musical talent was sadly unforthcoming - although I spent a while trying to get the hang of base guitar. But just sitting there listening to music wouldn't be enough for me. So I went down the middle and worked a while for a sound system hire company, rigged up lights and sound for concerts, did a bit of DJ-ing, and so on. On the road I learnt a whole lot about music and musicians. In Graz I put together my "mobile club" - two turntables, a couple of cases of vinyl, the "Gustav" (my flightcase with 1600W amplifiers) and four speakers the size of fridges. At student parties I was DJ-ing until late the next day. My bad records hour is legendary :-) |

My various jobs as a programmer and software designer led to me setting up my own business, netWorks, in 1997. Although actually I was dealing not so much with networks or programming as with CAD consultancy (as a communications technician!) |

Since mid-2001 I've been earning my bread as a technical manager at SteinhilberSchwehr Ltd. in Graz. We take care of all IT needs for small and medium-sized companies. I mainly deal with CAD (I-deas) and PLM (PRO.FILE). |

In the meantime my occupational situation has changed: My partner and me have taken over the company, and changed the name: We are named trisoft informationsmanagement gmbh and are focussing on product data management, document management and document archiving. PRO.FILE is our strategic product. |

When I'm not travelling up and down Germany and Austria, I spend a lot of my spare time on Linux. And have been doing so for some time now. I started with 0.99pl13, in around about 1993... I don't just use Linux, I add to it as well, in fact I'm really involved in the OpenSource movement: I did my bit for the internationalisation (well alright, starting out with the "Austrianisation") of the isdnlog (part of the ISDN subsystem), and since then I think my name even crops up in the current Linux Kernel sources... |

I spend most of my time and energy on LCD4Linux. This open-source project was started by me in 2001 and I'm still leading it. The aim of LCD4Linux is to be able to run any display with Linux, to present more or less sensible information with it. I think that we (the project includes about 15 people, all the same) are almost there now... |

Since I won over my girlfriend to Linux, we have an almost Microsoft-free household, in spite of our having four PCs and three PDAs. I'm particularly proud of our Home Theater PC, a disk- and fanless (and therefore absolutely noiseless) system, which boots Linux from the network and uses VDR to get satellite TV with recording, timeshift and all mod cons, DVD, (S)VCD, a CD player and MP3 (all of this in surround-sound), and you only use the TV remote control for the whole lot. Of course, there's also a built-in display controlled by LCD4Linux! |

Sitting in front of a computer for so long, sometimes I've got to get out into the fresh air. I enjoy it best when I'm flying my model planes. Flying planes is a great way to clear your head. It's not hard to explain why: you can't fly a plane slowly. When it's up in the air, it's up in the air. Let your concentration slip, and the plane crashes. It's as simple as that... The plane you can see in the photo was one I let my concentration slip with. It has now gone over to the eternal thermal current. You know, I had to dig out the motor with a shovel :-) I fly with the USFC Stainz, near Graz. At the moment my planes are really small and have electric motors, but when I grow up, I want to fly something like these guys do :-) |

The rest of my meagre spare time, I read (John Irving, Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams), listen to music (anything except pop), go to the movies (Quentin Tarantino), go hiking, ride my motorbike, ... Or I just hang out and do nothing at all... |

And all that leaves just too little time over for this beautiful babe on the left... She answers to the name of Dani (and doesn't answer to me). You'll find her funny little homepage here. We met each other ten years ago over FidoNet (perhaps you'd call it a chat room nowadays), and strangely enough, she's still hanging around. Probably that's because twice a month I'm a really ni-i-ice guy... I won't tell you more about Dani - you can ask her yourself. But be warned: all our e-mail correspondence goes through my server :-) |

And then there are these two, Johnny (top) and Nicki (bottom). In the past we haven't always seen eye to eye. They have literally swiped the salami out of my sandwich. Since then we've come to a kind of arrangement, and they let me live at their place :-) |

This is NOT our house :-( Dani's parents own an old farmhouse down in St Lorenzen ob Eibiswald. They've spent a lot of time and trouble extending and renovating it. We really like going out there to chill every now and then, not often enough unfortunately. It's just amazing out there, whatever time of year. |
